How to get more Google reviews for your contracting business

October 20, 2026

When someone searches for your trade near them, Google shows three businesses on the map before anything else. Reviews are one of the things that decide who gets those spots, and they’re one of the first things a customer compares.

The good news is that most happy customers will leave one. They just need to be asked at the right time, in an easy way.

Ask right when the job is done

The best moment is when the customer is looking at the finished work and telling you it looks great. Say: “Would you mind leaving us a quick Google review? I’ll text you the link.”

Don’t make them search for you. In your Google Business Profile, find the “Ask for reviews” or “Share review form” option and copy the link. Save it in your phone so you can text it in seconds.

Make it a habit, not a campaign

One review a week beats twenty in one month and then nothing. Google and customers both pay attention to how recent your reviews are. The easiest way to keep it going is an automatic text that goes out after every finished job.

Reply to every review

Thank people for good reviews by name and mention the job. For a bad review, reply calmly, once, and offer to make it right. Future customers read your replies.

What not to do

  • Don’t pay for reviews or offer discounts for them. It’s against Google’s rules and can get reviews removed.
  • Don’t write reviews for yourself or have family do it.
  • Don’t ask only the customers you think will give five stars. Ask everyone.
